Bao Borough is the newest restaurant from Bao, an exquisite tapas style Taiwanese restaurant known for their delicious steamed buns. We love Bao, the restaurant and the steamed buns, and have dined at Bao Fitzrovia approaching ten times the past two years. Bao Borough is unique from other Bao restaurants because there is a keen focus on grilled dishes, which I also love.
Bao Borough is on the edge of the vibrant Borough Market. The décor is casual and fun, and the vibe is reminiscent of a no-frills Chinatown restaurant. The service is professional and prompt, although it lacks a bit of warmth. Now the food 😁.
Baos

This is simply great and we never fail to order it. It’s so great we don’t ever consider sharing one. The buns are so soft and delicious, and the beef shortrib is juicy and incredibly well seasoned.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this, but it was good. Especially because it was well spicy.

The bun is clearly different but almost as delicious, and the chicken nugget is perfectly crisp on the outside and succulent inside.
Fried

This was decent. It wasn’t as succulent as the chicken nugget but not too far off. But it’s all about the hot sauce, which had the right amount of heat and spice.
Grilled

We loved these juicy wings, and it’s all about the rich marinade. You’d want more than three, trust me.

Ohhh my God! Absolutely delicious. I had the sauce all over my mouth because I tried to eat every last bit of meat on the cutlet. Everything was perfect… the marinade, the cooking, and the sauce it was served with.

Another OMG dish! Every piece of beef was juicy and delicious, and the rice at the bottom was soo good. And I don’t like rice.
Specials

This was bloody amazing as well. Every inch of the prawn was seasoned to perfection. Plus, the combination of the egg yolk and sauce was just divine.

Yes, that was incredibly delicious too. The texture is unique, it is tongue after all, so this might not be for everyone… but if you’re curious go for it and you will not be very pleased you did.
Verdict
We loved our dinner at Bao Borough. The vibe is very casual, the service is more more than adequate, and the food is great. It’s my favourite Bao restaurant because of the the grilled options. We recommend for very casual dates, a meal with friends, and everyone that enjoys good food. Bao Borough is very moderately priced. There’s also a private Karaoke room in the basement if you’re interested.
