Blacklock is a chophouse renowned for its relatively cheap top-quality steaks. Blacklock has three restaurants across London – City, Soho and Shoreditch. As proud East Londoners, it was always going to be Blacklock Shoreditch for us.
Blacklock Shoreditch keeps the rustic vibe of its location, which was formerly a furniture factory, and makes really good use of the space with a large bar and a good amount of seating. The service is also in keeping with vibe. Very friendly, almost hippie-ish, but also professional.
The food!
Blacklock Shoreditch menu has everything you’d want from a chophouse and a bit more, which makes it a tad difficult to decide. But we did… and did well!
Starters

The lamb belly ribs were beeping amazing. Incredibly succulent, and the seasoning was rich and delicious. You don’t expect this sort of flavour and richness at a chophouse, it’s reminiscent of the best Indian flavours, although not spicy.

The tender pulled pig’s head on the charred yet soft toast was a really good combination. I didn’t need the gravy, but it did add a bit more flavour to the dish. The chillies aren’t hot either, so need not worry about that unless you do like heat.
Skinny Chops

We really enjoyed this. Really well cooked and lightly seasoned so you’re enjoying the taste of good quality meat – lamb cutlet and pork belly in this case.
I highly recommend this if you’re into bbq’d chops of meat and don’t care for extra seasoning.
Steak!
We ordered 550g of Prime Rib cooked medium to share, with chop sauce and onion & gravy sauce.

The steak was wonderful. Cooked perfectly medium and the prime rib had a good amount of fat, which I love but Shiima not so much. But then this left more of the steak for me to enjoy 😁😝. The onion & gravy sauce was lovely and really elevated the luscious steak. The chop sauce was good too, but it had nothing on the onion & gravy. Overall, one of the best steak dishes we’ve enjoyed.
Beef Dripping Chips 10 Hour Ash Roasted Sweet Potato
The chips were really crunchy, but still enjoyable, and the roast potato, once you realise you ought not eat the charred skin, was solid.
Dessert

Oh my! This was so good! First, the presentation of the cheesecake is a really good idea. A large bake of cheesecake is brought to your table and you’re served a good portion of the cheesecake. It oozes homemade. More importantly though, it tasted really delicious and moreish.
Every element of the cheesecake was good, especially because when plating the cheesecake the fantastic biscuit base is mixed with the indulgent and creamy cheese mix, and flakes of white chocolate.
Verdict
We absolutely enjoyed our dinner at Blacklock Shoreditch. The vibe is relaxed and perfectly Shoreditch, the service was very friendly, and the food was exceptional. We recommend for a relaxed date, and large groups of family, friends or colleagues for a good catch-up over excellent steaks or a special occasion. Blacklock Shoreditch is also very fairly priced, especially the steaks.
