Indian Accent is an elegant Indian restaurant in Mayfair with a creative and contemporary approach to Indian cuisine. Shiima and I always try to visit at least one new Indian restaurant a month because we love Indian cuisine and there is a ton on our list we’re yet to visit. Indian Accent was at the top of that list because the pictures of their dishes on Instagram looked absolutely luscious. We reserved a table for last Saturday evening.
Indian Accent has a global presence, with restaurants in New Delhi and New York. Indian Accent London is on Albemarle Street, right in the heart of Mayfair, and on the same street as the Michelin starred Indian restaurant Gymkhana. A bold move. Indian Accent has the perfect vibe and decor for an opulent Mayfair restaurant.
The service was also very prompt and they all seemed to have a smile on their face.
What we ordered
The menu is simple. It’s split into first course, second course, main, breads, and sides. You select one from each section for a 3* course meal. Shiima selected potato sphere chaat for her first course, lamb Seekh kabab for her second, slow cooked lamb pulao for her main, and laacha butter naan and black dairy dal for her accompaniments. I ordered mahtri trio, sweet pickle pork ribs, chicken malai tikka, smoked bacon kulcha, and wasabi cucumber raita.

The Food
First Course

Shiima’s potato sphere chaat was beautifully presented and tasted beautiful as well. Very rich with a good balance of subtle and sweet flavours.

The mahri trio was really good. All three of them – smoked egg plant, duck, and chicken – all with distinct flavours and the pastry itself was delicious
Second Course

Shiima’s lamb Seekh kabab was another beautiful dish and it had a good spice kick to it. Succulent lamb and the bed of potatoes were equally soft and spiced.

My sweet pickle pork ribs were amazing… but not enough 😔. Two incredibly seasoned and fall of the bone pork ribs.
Mains, Sides, and Bread

Shiima’s slow cooked lamb pulao was perfect. Rice perfectly cooked and the flavours very well balanced. We didn’t touch the eggs though as we aren’t fans of boiled egg.

Shiima loved the combination of the pulao with the very rich dal, which I also enjoyed as well.

I was hoping for a bit of heat with my chicken malai tikka. There wasn’t any heat but it was so still really delicious. The sauce was buttery and rich and the chicken was succulent. Especially the lightly fried breaded chicken pieces.

My smoked bacon kulcha was really nice. Freshly baked and flaky bread with a well seasoned pork filling… incredibly moreish.

Dessert!
We’d eaten a lot, but we were still keen on dessert, more out of intrigue because we were enthralled by Indian Accent’s creativity. We couldn’t decide on which dessert so we ordered the makhan malai and the doda barfi treacle tart.

The makhan malai was beautiful. Simply it’s a creamy milk mousse adorned with crunchy toasted almond flakes, rose petal jaggery brittle, and gold flakes. I really enjoyed it because it wasn’t too sweet and was rather light. Shiima wasn’t a fan because it had too many “textures” 🤨.

No problem though because Shiima really enjoyed the doda barfi treacle tart which was a sticky toffee pudding in all but name. Very rich but not overly sweet, and the ice cream was really good.
Verdict
We really enjoyed our dinner experience at Indian Accent. It’s a very elegant restaurant with top notch service, and the food, although lacking the expected heat of Indian cuisine, was very flavourful and creative. Perfect for anyone that’s interested in Indian cuisine but it’s sure about the heat. All the dishes are plated fantastically as well. We recommend primarily for romantic dates and special occasions. Indian Accent is expensive, the three course menu starts at £55pp, so we’ll recommend for a splash out dinner with friends or family as well.
