Hawksmoor is a British steak restaurant with several restaurant across the UK.
We went to the Spitalfields restaurant and I was quick to point out that it’s a very beautiful and spacious restaurant. Its low lit, elegant and intimate. Have a look at a quick video of the restaurant to see for yourself:
So, when Amen mentioned that we will be going to Hawksmoor for dinner I was utterly confused. I don’t eat beef and he doesn’t really eat steaks unless he is with his steak loving friends. But I went with it and to be honest I was kind of excited.
To my surprise the menu had a good number of dishes – I was expecting, steak, steak and more steak. But it had starters, mains, steaks, extras and sides.
What we ordered
Now, don’t judge me! I already said I don’t eat steaks… and we already know I’m not a beef eater unless it’s a burger.
I ordered the Doddington Caesar salad (without anchovies) – you’re probably thinking “A F***ing salad at a steak restaurant!?”. But it was just for the starters and I also had the Fillet carpaccio with pickled chestnut mushrooms & parmesan – THAT’S BEEF!! And Amen, well he had pork – The Old Spot belly ribs.
But for my mains, I did have the Chicken! If a steak restaurant is doing chicken, you have to at least try and see if it’s any good… keep reading to find out!
Amen, saved the night by ordering steak. He had a detailed conversation with our amazing waitress and she helped him make the decision to go for the Rib-eye (400g) – he had that medium-well.
We also ordered macaroni cheese and beef dripping fries.
What we thought
Salad is salad right? So, wont go into that much apart from it was very fresh! I enjoyed my salad with the fillet carpaccio together. The combination worked really well! The fillet carpaccio was AMAZING! I’ve never had anything like this before and I didn’t think I would like it as its pure beef but I really enjoyed it. I would definitely order it again. Amen liked it too but he loved that I was eating it so he left it all to me.
Amen thought his pork ribs were really nice! It wasn’t spicy or too sweet, just perfectly seasoned and cooked really well.
My chicken main was good, small but good. It came with chicken jus which made it even better. The flavours were simple and tasty, almost like a roast. It had crispy chicken skin on top which I don’t enjoy anyways so I just took it off but Amen loved it. He didn’t like my chicken but loved the crispy chicken skin.
Finally, the steak! It was large, and it looked good. Amen was truly impressed by it and thought it was wonderful. He absolutely loved it and would definitely go for more. He even loved the fatty bits of the steak!
The important part is that I tried the steak and I agree with Amen. I was so shocked that I loved it, but it was delicious. Next time, I would definitely go for the steak. Looks like Hawksmoor converted me to a steak eater!
The macaroni cheese was ok. Not the best we’ve had but it was average. What really disappointed me was the beef dripping fries. It wasn’t dripping with anything…it was regular fries probably fried with beef fat. I was so sad, I was really expecting juicy fries dripping in beef. But they did taste nice.
We always say that British restaurants always do nice desserts, so we have to leave room for it!
I had the Sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream. It was delicious. I love sticky toffee pudding, and this was perfect. I didn’t like clotted cream which I should’ve asked to change to ice cream. But other than that, it was amazing.
Amen had the peanut butter shortbread with salted caramel ice cream. This dessert sounds like heaven for Amen. He loves peanut butter, salted caramel and shortbread maybe more than he loves me. He really enjoyed this, and it was warm too which was even better.
Hawksmoor do delicious food and perfect steaks (it converted me, which is usually hard). The restaurant itself is beautiful and perfect for different occasions. With perfect food and a beautiful restaurant, you just can’t go wrong! We definitely recommend for all types of dinners and if you’re celebrating a birthday, let Hawksmoor know and they’ll give you a free dessert! The service is outstanding. We couldn’t fault our Hawksmoor first impression.
