Kimchee is an authentic Korean restaurant with two locations in central London – Kimchee Holborn, and the recently opened Kimchee Pancras Square. We’ve been to Kimchee Holborn a couple times for dinner, but our most recent visit to Kimchee Pancras Square.
Our visit to Kimchee Pancras Square was impromptu, Shiima and I were in the area and didn’t even plan to eat out on the night, but soon as we saw the restaurant we both wanted to eat there.
Kimchee Pancras Square is elegantly furnished exactly like the Holborn restaurant. I have no clue if the décor is unique to Korea, but it’s unique to Kimchee and very distinct, with an open plan kitchen and traditional charcoal grill. The service was also very prompt and professional.
What we ordered
The menu is quite extensive with all the Korean cuisine staples, but we weren’t as hungry as usual so our order was fairly limited. We ordered Chicken Mandu, Kanpoongi, Yang Yeum Chicken, and Spicy Calamari Tuigim for starters. Shiima ordered Chicken Bibimbap and I ordered Pork Bulgogi… maybe not so limited 😁.
The Chicken Mandu was good. Deep fried but not oily. The pastry was delicious and the filling was simple yet tasty.
The Kanpoongi was awesome. Succulent fried chicken coated in spicy garlic sauce. Very indulgent!
The Yang Yeum Chicken was quite good too. The fried chicken pieces were lightly battered and tossed in sweet chilli sauce. I preferred the Kanpoongi because it’s spicier, but if you prefer a sweet touch with your fried chicken, this is perfect.
We didn’t like the spicy calamari tuigim. It was overly battered and the calamari itself wasn’t that tasty… or maybe it was just fried food overload at this point.
Shiima’s Bibimbap was a tad bland and too sticky. She added some Kanpoongi and yang yeum chicken and that elevated the dish, but she still wasn’t enamoured.
I loved my pork bulgogi. The thinly sliced pieces of pork were perfectly grilled and spiced. I finished in a minute and I wanted more.
Yes! We ordered the Kong-Kalu Crème Brûlée with Almond ice cream.
We didn’t like the ice cream, but both really enjoyed the sweet and rich Crème brûlée 👌🏾.
We enjoyed our experience at Kimchee Pancras Square. Good and authentic Korean food, service was professional, and the vibe is casual yet elegant. We recommend for casual dates, and casual meals with friends, colleagues or families. Business meals as well, because Kimchee Pancras Square is lively but not too loud. It’s also very moderately priced.
