Frenchie is an elegant French restaurant in Covent Garden that’s classed as a “modern Brasserie”. Inexplicably, Shiima and I had never tried French cuisine, so were very excited about Frenchie Covent Garden, especially because the menu has a lot of intriguing dishes and the Frenchie restaurant group comes with much renown.
Frenchie Covent Garden is very modern and relaxed in its décor. There are two levels. A somewhat narrow ground floor with a beautiful bar…
And a cosy cellar that looks into an open kitchen.
The service, especially ours, was impeccable. We were taken care of by Cyril, the general manager, and he was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the food and all things Frenchie.
What we ordered
For nibbles we ordered lamb sweetbread nuggets and Bacon scone with maple syrup. Lamb ragu pappardelle and Duck Foie Gras for starters. Sussex Pork and Wooley Park Farm Chicken for our mains.
Food
Nibbles

The Bacon scone with maple syrup was incredible! 😍😋 Really, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life. Sweet, salty, and freshly baked… all done to perfection. Plus the Cornish clotted cream is the perfect finishing touch. I ordered one more, and had to stop myself from ordering more.

The lamb sweetbread nuggets were fantastic as well. Shiima usually isn’t keen on lamb, so this was perfect for her because it didn’t especially taste or smell of lamb. It had a good kick to it as well because of the smoked paprika and jalapeño.
Starters

The Lamb Ragu pappardelle is a really rich and cheesy pasta dish. The pasta was more in wide sheets, similar to lasagna sheets, and it was perfectly cooked. But most of the flavour came from the rich ragu with succulent pulled lamb and delicious olives.

I didn’t really enjoy the Duck Foie Gras, and that’s because I don’t really like Foie Gras. I’ve been fighting it, trying Foie Gras as much as possible at stellar restaurants, but after having this beautifully plated and intricate Duck Foie Gras I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not for me.
Mains

Shiima’s Wooley Park Farm Chicken was also beautifully plated. The chicken was simply seasoned and excellently cooked, but most of its flavour came combining it with all the other elements of the dish. Shiima usually isn’t a a fan of dishes with too many different textures, but she enjoyed this.

My Sussex Pork was really good, but the best thing on the dish wasn’t the pork, which was excellent, it was the boudin noir. Wow! It was fantastic.
Dessert?
All three desserts were intriguing, but we couldn’t decide on which to share and neither of us could handle a dessert to ourselves. Next time.
Verdict
We really enjoyed our dinner experience at Frenchie Covent Garden. The restaurant is elegant and relaxed, the food was delicious, and service was superb. We would certainly be going back. But not only that, we’ve also added a few more French restaurants to our list based off our Frenchie experience. We recommend for relaxed dates, family meals, and special occasions. Frenchie is expensive though, but that’s somewhat to be expected.
